What about Provincial Synod Delegates?
At our Diocesan Synod, we shall be asked to vote for Provincial Synod Delegates.
The delegates are: the Bishop (not voted on), three clergy delegates, two lay delegates and one lay youth delegate. The next Provincial Synod is planned to be held May 6 – 9, 2027 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
At the Provincial Synod the delegates may be elected to serve on the Provincial Executive Council, one of the Committees (Ministry, Canons & Constitution, Provincial Panel, Provincial Court) or to fill other Provincial executive positions
Delegate responsibilities include:
(a) to ensure that prior to the Synod meeting, matters of policy to be discussed by Synod are considered and discussed within various counsels of the diocese which they represent,
(b) to ensure that any concern or initiative from their diocese, which relates to the province, is raised at Synod, or if that is impracticable, is communicated to the Executive Council of the Synod,
(c) to attend the Synod meeting, to present both the opinions of people of the diocese which they represent and their own personal opinions on matters to be decided or considered by the Synod, clearly distinguishing between the two if they are different,
(d) to hear and consider the representations communicated by other members of Synod and participate in all deliberations and decisions of the Synod,
(e) to report back to their diocese the actions and decisions of the Provincial Synod.
Provincial Synods are a great way to meet people from the Arctic and across the prairie provinces, worship with them, make friendships, and share experiences. They usually don’t have all the political drama of the General Synod, and are more focussed on relationship building and supporting each other.
If you are a Diocesan Synod delegate, please pray about letting your name stand either as a Provincial Synod delegate, or a General Synod delegate (which was explored last week).
Thank you, and God bless you!
