As we enter the season of Advent—a time when generosity and goodwill are abundant—there are unfortunately individuals who attempt to take advantage of people’s kindness.
This past week, our diocesan archivist received a phone call from someone claiming to be an Anglican priest in Ontario, requesting the purchase of grocery gift cards for a church fundraising effort. Sensing something was not right, she wisely contacted the church office for clarification. The Bishop, who personally knows the priest named, followed up and confirmed that the request was a scam.
Please remain vigilant. If you receive unexpected requests for money or gift cards on behalf of the church, take a moment to verify the information by contacting your parish office, diocesan office, or the individual directly through known and trusted channels.
